Ainslie Manson

Ainslie Manson was born and raised in Montreal, where at an early age it was found that she had terrible eyesight. Combined with the wartime shortage of books, and a doctor's order to only read school books, she learned to treasure books at an early age and now reads voraciously. Having lived in England, Connecticut and Minnesota, Ainslie Manson now lives in West Vancouver. Ballerinas Don't Wear Glasses is based on a real event in her childhood, when, as a dancer in Swan Lake, she was told by older girls that ballerinas didn't wear glasses. Realizing now that anything is possible, especially with the support of older siblings, Ainslie has tried to communicate that hope in this book.
Her previous picturebooks include; A Dog Came Too (Groundwood, 1992), Just Like New (Groundwood, 1995) and Baboo (Groundwood, 1998). Ainslie has been employed as a research assistant and as a freelance writer and is an active member of several writers associations.
Ainslie is an avid canoer and kayaker, she also loves reading, quilting and cross-country skiing. She swims whenever she can, although only in the ocean, where she might have the pleasure of meeting a seal nose to nose.
