CLCD NEWSVolume 1, Issue 11November 2002

Thanksgiving 2002 is fast approaching. Most of us find it a time of contemplation and may be asking ourselves-- What are you thankful for this year?

Those of us in the Washington, DC area are giving special thanks to those in law enforcement who cracked the sniper case that terrorized this region for three weeks. How comforting to know they are there to protect us.

The fourth Thursday in November: we count on it every year as a time to gather with friends and family and to give thanks for the blessings of the year. Something else you can count on is The Children's Literature Comprehensive Database (CLCD). It is designed to help you efficiently and accurately locate the information you need to answer all types of questions relating to children's books, make purchasing decisions, determine the needs of your collection, catalog books, and more.

We received an email of thanks from Laura Steinbach at TCU Library who said,

"I have been searching for the title of a particular book I read in 5th grade. Much to my delight it was easy to find the book within the first 20 titles and abstracts provided by the database. The mystery is solved... Thanks again for creating such a great database."

Click on www.childrenslit.com to discover its many fine features. Subscriptions are still only $249.95 for a full year. A 30-day subscription is also available at $29.99 primarily for teachers and students. We have a special free gift available to them (and other subscribers if they wish). It is one of two Teacher's Guides developed by NPR and National Geographic for the Radio Expeditions program. It is yours for the cost of shipping when you place a subscription order. It is our way of saying thanks to all of you for your interest and support of the database. A brief description of each kits is available on the web site.

Search Tip of the Month

Please note that we have modified the results display so that the publisher's name appears in the results list. This will help to easily identify large print editions, paperbacks, specialty bound editions, and the like. It will eliminate what may on the surface appear to be duplicates and also will eliminate the necessity to click on the record to see the publisher name. We hope that helps and welcome all of your suggestions.

The Free Stuff

There are several timely topics among our themed reviews this month. The season for holidays is quickly approaching, and you will want to be apprised of the new titles available. Go to www.childrenslit.com to find the latest books on Thanksgiving, Hanukkah and Ramadan.
