As the academic year winds down, the staff at the Children's Literature Comprehensive Database (CLCD) would like to take a moment to thank our subscribers for their positive comments. You have told us that this database is your first choice for information about children's literature. We hear from college professors, their students, teachers, librarians and media specialists about how important this database is to their work. "it is my favorite database and I use it all the time for a variety of reasons;" "I am going to include your site in my homework assignment;" "an excellent resource for students enrolled in the children's literature courses;" "I open it when I come to work in the morning and close it when I leave in the evening." Others have told us what a valuable resource it is for children's literature award committee work. We try hard to respond to your needs. Thank you for letting us know that we are helping to bring quality literature together with children and young adults.

We are looking forward to seeing many of our subscribers at ALA in Orlando at the end of the month. We will be at Booth T3265. If you haven't subscribed yet, we'd love to tell you more about the CLCD and why it is the natural resource for children's literature.

Our featured themed reviews this month will present quite a few new books in our Father's Day section. Flag Day is June 14, and Juneteenth is on the 19th so be sure to have some of these titles on display.

Everyone loves a good mystery. Why not highlight some recent award winners? The Agatha Awards, which are amazing one-of-a-kind teapots, honor the traditional mystery. The 2003 Agatha Award for Best Children's Novel was awarded to Kathleen Karr for The 7th Knot . Also congratulations to Phyllis Reynolds Naylor whose book Bernie Magruder and the Bats in the Belfry won the Edgar for best juvenile mystery of 2003.

You won't want to miss this month's author and illustrator interviews. Jan Greenberg discusses Romare Bearden: Collage of Memories and many other of her art focused books. Wendell Minor discusses why he chooses to illustrate children's books. Gerald McDermott's most recent work, Creation, lends itself to a very interesting discussion, as does, the work of Elsie Aidinoff who has just published her first book, The Garden. Discover how the Biblical story of Adam and Eve led her to write a story for young adults about personal responsibility.

We were saddened by the news of the death of Syd Hoff. He will be fondly missed, but his books will continue to bring smiles to the faces of children and their parents.

When using Internet Explorer, you will find that the frames print out separately. For each page of results printed, you get one sheet of paper with the navigation buttons, and one with the results that you have selected. To avoid wasting paper and to get the print out that you want, go to print preview instead of print. There you will see a pull down window which offers three options:

  • as laid out
  • only selected frames
  • all frames individually
You can see what each one will do as you select them. I recommend that you select as laid out if you want the navigation information to appear or only selected frames (to make the latter work so that you don't get the navigation information you need to click in the text portion that you want to print before going to print preview, then choose only selected frames).
