Picnics and family reunions are just two of the treats of summer. At my husband's family reunion, traditional recipes are the centerpiece of the day. Aunt Rose's red peppers are the best I've ever eaten. The potato pie always requires a second helping. Yet, when I try to make these dishes at home, they never taste quite the same. Anyone who has tried to make an old family recipe certainly knows the joke about that secret ingredient, the item that is left out so it won't be as good as the original. Perhaps that isn't far from the truth. Perhaps that additional ingredient is "delight" which comes from the joy of sharing the meal with favorite people. Here at the Children's Literature Comprehensive Database (CLCD) we want to assure you that every subscription comes with all the ingredients for success. If you can't quite figure out how to make the CLCD work for you, just contact us and we would be delighted to supply the recipe.

When you are looking at the information about a book and need to know more-such as the current price or availability-click on the CLCD B&N Bookstore button at the top or bottom of the page. It will take you directly to that item where you can get product information and lots more. You can then just hit the Back button to return to whatever you were doing in the CLCD database. Should you wish to make a purchase later on, remember that doing so from the CLCD database earns you an extra 5% discount.

Happy Birthday, America! In our themed reviews for the 4th of July, we have selected books that discuss the symbols of America, ways Americans celebrate this patriotic holiday, the documents that are the cornerstone of the American democratic republic, and the patriots who risked their lives to create this new country. To keep the fun going all summer take a look at the new activity books in our Summer Fun feature.

Our featured authors this month are Marissa Moss and Iain Lawrence. Marissa may be best known for her Amelia books, but she also has written historical fiction and two highly acclaimed books True Heart and Mighty Jackie. Iain Lawrence, with his extensive knowledge of sailing and diligent research, brings great authenticity to the writing of his novels and an unmistakable love of the sea itself. In addition, we have updated the book reviews in the features about Jim Arnosky who recently won SB&F Prize for Excellence in Science Books; Andrew Clements who continues to be a favorite among young readers; and Kate DiCamillo who debuts a new series of early readers with Mercy Watson to the Rescue.
