The Children's Literature Comprehensive Database (CLCD) has proven to be ideal for faculty and students at colleges and universities, especially those offering courses in teacher preparation or library science in general and children's literature in particular. With more and more emphasis on the use of trade books to complement textbooks and classroom lessons, future teachers and those who instruct them need a reliable resource to assist them in curriculum development and selection of outside reading materials. The CLCD database currently contains over 500,000 MARC records and more than 40,000 full-text reviews from the independent review sources listed in the enclosed brochure. Fiction and non-fiction books may be accessed together or separately. Users may also make more specific searches by genre. Any search may be further qualified by specifying an age, language, or year of publication. The search results are presented in order of relevance, but that list may be sorted by year of publication in ascending or descending order, author, title, language or LC classification. One may even browse the virtual shelf on which a selection is located to find books and media materials related to it. Among the many applications of the CLCD database, current subscribers are using it to: · Build thematic units · Help students learn to read reviews critically · Plan curriculum for a broad range of students The entire institution, may use this innovative, highly useful database for one low annual fee of $249.95. Institutions with more than one campus or off site student learning or more than one library may apply for a special rate for their combined sites.
