THE CHILDREN'S LITERATURE COMPREHENSIVE DATABASE WELCOMES THE COOPERATIVE CHILDREN'S BOOK CENTER

Bethesda MD - February 28, 2002 - The Children's Literature Comprehensive Database (CLCD) is pleased to announce that the reviews from CCBC Choices, an annual publication created by the professional staff of The Cooperative Children's Book Center (CCBC) of the School of Education at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, can now be accessed in the database. Reviews from 1996 to the present are included.

The Cooperative Children's Book Center is a noncirculating examination, study and research library for adults with an interest in children's and young adult literature. At the end of every year CCBC staff members Ginny Moore Kruse, Kathleen T. Horning, and Megan Schliesman prepare an annotated listing of the books they consider to be the best books of the year, called CCBC Choices.

"We are extremely pleased to have the expertise of the CCBC staff included in the Children's Literature Comprehensive Database," says Marilyn Courtot, founder of the CLCD Company. "The cross-referencing and CCBC category information provided in CCBC Choices have been retained in the CLCD. This will be a valuable tool for librarians and teachers who are preparing bibliographies and working on collection development."

Ginny Moore Kruse, Director of the Cooperative Children's Book Center, states, "One of the purposes of the Cooperative Children's Book Center is to support teaching, learning and research needs related to children's and young adult literature. With its Web-based access, the CLCD provides a new venue for what the CCBC does to highlight outstanding books for the young and makes this information available in new ways."

About the Children's Literature Comprehensive Database
Established in 1999 by Marilyn Courtot, a librarian, CLCD and its sister company help teachers, librarians, childcare providers, and parents make appropriate literary choices for children. As one of the 20 organizations that provide reviews to CLCD, Children's Literature's 125 independent reviewers read and critically review more than 4,000 books annually. Among the other sources providing reviews are ALAN, The Bulletin, KIRKUS, KLIATT, and VOYA. The CLCD database currently contains more than 70,000 reviews, with an average of 1,000 added each month.
