BOOK JACKET IMAGES ENHANCE THE CLCD

Bethesda MD - January 24, 2003 - The Children’s Literature Comprehensive Database Company, LLC announces the addition of thousands of book jacket images to the database. “Subscribers have told us they would like to have these images available. We are pleased to be able to meet this request,” states Marilyn Courtot, President of the CLCD Company, LLC. The images are from the major children’s book publishers such as Child’s World, HarperCollins, Holt, St. Martin’s Press (Bloomsbury Children’s Books), Scholastic, Simon & Schuster, and more. Titles in the CLCD database range from board books for the youngest readers to books for high school students.

With the full-color images, the CLCD is the next best thing to having the book in hand. Since many librarians do not have the occasion to see all the books before ordering, the opportunity to see the cover art adds to the verbal information in the reviews.

Seeing the book jacket can help determine if it is the book for which the researcher has been looking. Dr. Susan Hepler, coauthor of Children’s Literature in the Elementary School 7th Edition, states in her assessment of the CLCD database, “In this era of limited budgets and limited time with students, but a plethora of books, it is really important to hone in on the very best and to know which will appeal and also be ones that children can relate to and understand.” Book jacket images augment the CLCD and make this task easier.
