Meeting the Needs of School Librarians

With reliable, accurate, current information in a cost-effective package:

For Curriculum-Related Books

"...we worked on a list of recommended literature for science and mathematics for the California Department of Education. It was an excellent resource for this project."

Martha Rowland

For Cataloging and Booktalking

"I can't imagine how I ever survived before subscribing to the CLCD! It is useful for so many things. I use it for cataloging, jiggling my memory for booktalks, new book reviews (all in one spot!), authors, titles, and anything else I need to know about children's literature — new and exciting features are being added to it all the time."

For Collection Development

"As a longtime children's book expert and enthusiast, but a new librarian, the CLCD has been a true gift in keeping up with the demands of collection development. Sure, I usually know the titles I am looking for, but your database affords me quicker and more extensive access than my tired old brain and files could ever match. It is the perfect compliment to my work." Walter is coauthor of Valerie & Walter's Best Books For Children: A Lively, Opinionated Guide and the soon to be released Walter The Giant Storyteller's Giant Book Of Giant Stories.

For Best Books, State Reading Lists and Award Winners

"In this era of limited budgets and limited time with students, but a plethora of books, it is really important to hone in on the very best and to know which will appeal and also be ones that children can relate to and understand."

Dr. Susan Hepler
Alexandria, VA
Coauthor of Children's Literature in the Elementary School, 7th Ed.

For Efficient Book Ordering and for Foreign Language Searches

"The desire of every librarian is to instantly supply the perfect link or ultimate answer in response to a client's need for information. Thanks to our school's CLCD subscription, guaranteed success to literary inquiries is "a piece of cake." Recently a high school student requested that we add some of Bill Peet's titles to the children's literature collection. Instantly we garnered five of his favorite titles from the 102 hits in the database. We selected the records and printed a list to attach to the purchase order in a matter of minutes. The teaching staff appreciates the opportunity to enter key words to find titles that might serve to motivate a specific lesson, provide a book in Spanish to enhance the learning for a bilingual student, or a video to introduce new concepts.

CLCD is the Internet's literary connection to meet the diverse needs in a school environment. Each month new features and capabilities for the subscriber are integrated including full reviews from a growing list of 20 sources, award winning titles, MARC records, and an online newsletter describing the added extras to the database. Check out the Children's Literature Home Page-its rich resources are real attention-getters, too!"
